Hair Loss Pride:

An Empowering Community for Teens and Women with Hair Loss

Hi, I’m Tami!

I never thought I’d start my own business.
But life- and alopecia- had other plans.

My hair started thinning at 15, right after I took an acne medication. I was young, scared, and completely unprepared for how deeply hair loss would affect me. For years, I thought I was the only girl dealing with this. I spent my teens and 20s obsessing over my scalp, stressing over windy days, and hiding my thinning hair under hats, ponytails, and hair fibers.

When I was finally diagnosed with androgenic alopecia at 23, I was relieved to have a name for it, but that didn’t make the isolation go away. I didn’t know anyone else who looked like me, a young woman with thinning hair. This was 20 years ago, and there really was no awareness about what alopecia was and no social media community where women were proudly sharing their stories. I was incredibly lonely: grieving the loss of my hair, my femininity, and my identity.

I spent nearly two decades working in healthcare- first in physical therapy, then in biotech and patient advocacy- supporting others while quietly hiding my own pain. It wasn’t until I started wearing wigs in my early 30s that something shifted. I looked in the mirror and, for the first time in years, saw someone who looked like me. Not a version I was trying to hide or fix. Not someone I was trying to explain. Just me.

That moment was a catalyst.

Since then, I’ve made it my mission to raise awareness for female hair loss so women and teens experiencing it feel seen, safe, and strong as hell.

In 2023, I published Hair Pride, a children’s book inspired by my own journey. If I had read a story like that when I was a child, maybe I wouldn’t have spent so many years in hiding. I also managed a wig store in Vancouver, helping women find the right wig or topper and witnessing firsthand just how emotionally loaded those moments can be. Every conversation reminded me: hair loss isn’t “just cosmetic.” It’s personal, vulnerable, and deeply tied to identity.

That’s why I created Hair Loss Pride- a coaching and support community for women and teens navigating all types of hair loss, whether you’ve just noticed thinning or you’ve worn wigs for years. We do real talk, real support, and real solutions. No medical gatekeeping. No shame. No “you’re not bald enough to belong” that I’ve experienced with other groups.

Hair Loss Pride is for you if:

  • You feel alone in your hair loss journey and crave community.

  • You want expert support choosing a wig, topper, or alternative hair system.

  • You’re ready to stop hiding and start showing up as your whole self- with or without hair.
