When I was 15, my hair started falling out.

I didn’t know anyone else my age going through it. There were no books, no role models, no safe spaces where I could talk about how scared and ashamed I felt. I spent years trying to hide my alopecia, convinced it made me less beautiful, less worthy, less me.

Fast forward to adulthood- after two decades of silence, I started sharing my story. Women would tell me, “I wish I had someone like you to talk to when I was younger.” I realized that kids today still don’t have many resources that normalize hair loss or show them they are perfect exactly as they are.

That’s why I wrote Hair Pride.

It celebrates differences, challenges beauty standards, and teaches kids (and the grown-ups reading to them) that their worth isn’t tied to their hair. The story encourages children to embrace their uniqueness, whether they have alopecia, are going through medical treatments, or simply don’t see themselves reflected in the media.

After publishing Hair Pride in 2023, something amazing happened. Parents reached out, teachers shared it with classrooms, and women with hair loss told me how much they wished they’d had it when they were younger. Those conversations lit a fire in me. If this little book could start conversations, imagine what an entire community could do.

That’s how Hair Loss Pride was born. Just like the book, it’s a safe, uplifting space where nobody has to hide or apologize for what they look like.

For me, Hair Pride isn’t just a children’s book- it was the beginning of dedicating my life to helping other women like me.
