Why You Don’t Need Thousands of Followers to Make a Real Impact

When I started Hair Loss Pride in September 2024, I wasn’t thinking about followers, algorithms, or becoming an influencer. I wasn’t dreaming of viral videos or brand deals. Honestly, none of that even crossed my mind.

I started this community because I wanted to build what I didn’t have when I first began losing my hair as a teenager: a place filled with support, encouragement, community, and the kind of love only women who truly “get it” can offer.

I didn’t create Hair Loss Pride to chase numbers. I created it to give women with hair loss a home.

And it turns out that you don’t need a massive following to do that.

Brands Found Me Before I Ever Thought About “Influencing”

When I launched Hair Loss Pride, I had zero expectation that brands or companies would ever notice me. The idea that wig brands would send me products or ask me to review their pieces… that felt like something that happened to influencers with 50k, 100k, 500k followers.

Not someone like me. Not someone with a tiny, brand-new account.

But it happened, and honestly it still surprises me in the best possible way.

Getting to try new wigs and new brands has been fun, of course, but the real gift has been the ability to help other women who are overwhelmed by the entire wig world. Because let’s be real: wigs are expensive, the options are endless, and most women don’t know where to start.

It took me years to figure out what brands I trusted, what cap constructions I liked, and what looked natural on me. If I can save someone time, money, and heartbreak? That means everything.

Why Authenticity Matters More Than Follower Count

Here’s the truth: brands don’t reach out to me because I have thousands of followers. They reach out because they know I’m honest.

The first thing I tell every brand is:

“I’d love to review your product, as long as you’re okay with me being completely honest.”

I mean that. If something is great, I say so. If something needs work, I say that too.

I don’t sugar-coat. I don’t hype a product to make a company happy, and I will never tell a woman that something is good if it isn’t.

In the hair loss world, credibility is everything. Women come to me scared, confused, sad, and vulnerable. They’re already overwhelmed. The last thing they need is someone pushing a product that will disappoint them.

So yes, I’m sitting here with around 2,000 followers, and I’m getting opportunities that I assumed only happen once you hit 10k or 20k or more.

Follower count has never been the point. Authenticity is. Vulnerability is. Trust is, and brands can see that.

Impact Isn’t Measured by Numbers- It’s Measured by People

Followers were never my goal, and they’re still not. What matters to me is the message I get from a woman saying:

“I finally feel seen.”
“You helped me feel less alone.”
“You changed my life.”
“I finally booked a wig consult because of your honesty.”
“I told my partner about my hair loss after watching your video.”

Those messages are why I do this.

If my content helps one woman feel supported… or understood… or brave for the first time in years… then my purpose is fulfilled. I don’t need 50,000 strangers double-tapping my content for that.

Being Unapologetically Yourself Will Always Attract the Right People

We live in a time where everything online can feel fake.
Fake filters. Fake edits. Fake reviews. Fake perfection.

Women with hair loss don’t need perfection. They need truth, real conversations, and someone who has lived what they’re living.

That’s what I’m here to do.

I’m not for everyone, and that’s fine. I’m here for the women who need this community, who need support, and who are tired of hiding.

So whether my follower count goes up, down, or stays the same, it doesn’t change the mission:

To break the stigma.
To erase the shame.
To make sure no woman feels alone in her hair loss journey ever again.

If I can do that with 2,000 followers or 200,000… it makes no difference.

Impact is never about the numbers. It’s about the hearts I reach, even if it’s just one.
